It’s official! Another book by author/video blogger/online educator named John Green is being adapted for the big screen. ‘Looking for Alaska’ will be directed by Canadian actress and director Sarah Polley. This talented woman was nominated for an Oscar in Best Writing for Adapted Screenplay category for her debut film, ‘Away from Her’.
John Green seemed elated by the news:
For those who have not read the book, here is a short description of the story:
Before. Miles “Pudge” Halter’s whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the “Great Perhaps” (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.
After. Nothing is ever the same.
So far there is no news on the release date nor the casting but I assume that this movie will be out after ‘Paper Towns‘ movie. My friend is lending me his book so this news ought to motivate me to read both books.
John Green’s fans, are you excited about this adaptation? Who do you think should be cast as ‘Pudge’ and ‘Alaska’?
